The SML solar water heating system is based on the Filsol flat plate collector which is manufactured at Filsol Solar's factory in South Wales. Based on a high efficiency stainless steel absorber plate, the Filsol collector is widely regarded as one of the most effective, reliable and long lasting solar collectors available.

Filsol's flat plate collectors have been installed in domestic, public sector and commercial buildings throughout the UK for over 25 years, with many of the early solar water heating installations still operating effectively today.
Filsol have been instrumental in the development of the solar energy industry in the UK for over two decades. The Filsol brand is especially well known in the public sector - particularly with local authorities and Housing Associations - where the brand has become synonymous with a commitment to quality and customer satisfaction. Today thousands of Filsol systems are providing clean, 'green' solar heated water in both the public and private sectors across the UK.

The SML system is supplied with all the components needed for a complete solar water heating system, including solar hot water cylinders, controllers, system connections and hydraulic accessories.
Based on the evidence of independent Government tests, Filsol collectors have been proven to provide an average output of approximately 440kWh per m² of collector per year. A properly designed system can be expected to provide between 60% and 70% of a household's annual hot water requirement, and 100% of the hot water requirement through the summer months.

The chart opposite shows the contribution made by a Filsol system in meeting the overall hot water energy requirement of a house in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire, in an independent Government-commissioned field test. The chart shows that the solar system provided a monthly average of 76% of the household's hot water requirement, providing almost all of the hot water requirements between April and October.
The Filsol collector carries a full warranty for 10 years. The expected life of the collector is in excess of 25 years; this is based on installed collectors which have been in service for more than 25 years. The expected service life of the stainless steel absorber plate is a lifetime (70 years +).
