News Posted: 29 February 2008 New 'Green' Star Rating for All New Homes The Government has announced that all new homes will be rated against the Code for Sustainable Homes from May this year. The move will enable buyers of new homes to see exactly how green their home is. Houses which go beyond Building Regulations requirements will be awarded up to six stars, while those that are not assessed will get a nil rating by default. Speaking at Ecobuild, Housing Minister Caroline Flint said: "By requiring a rating for all new homes in the run-up to 2016, we are creating an important incentive for house builders to provide greener, more sustainable homes." Ratings will apply to those homes being newly designed and built from May 2008 thereby giving builders time to design and build in line with the Code rather than opting for a nil rating. << back to news content
