The Met Office has confirmed that this February has been the sunniest since records began in 1929.
Provisional figures show that the total sunshine in the UK for the month up to 27th was 106.1 hours, beating the previous 1970 record of 94.4 hours. The Met Office believes the UK, England and Wales have had one of the sunniest winters since records began in 1929, which may be related to climate change. However, the news is not so bright for Northern Ireland and Scotland who have not beaten their previous sunshine records.
