Public Sector and
Not-for-Profit Projects

SML have worked on many public sector projects from schools, colleges and university buildings to civic offices and government properties, as well as village halls and community centres. As a Framework Supplier under the Low Carbon Buildings Programme (LCBP) Phase 2 scheme, these projects have benefitted from heavily subsidised installations with grants of up to 50% of the total capital and installation costs.

Tailored Solutions

All our systems are tailored to meet the specific requirements of our clients and the particular design constraints of buildings. Once we have established which system is right, we will provide a detailed design, assist in securing the grant funding and complete the installation of the system to the highest specification.

Whilst we have undertaken numerous solar water heating installations on schools, colleges and other public sector buildings, our solar PV systems often provide the best solution. Such buildings, where electricity needs are often greater than the requirements for hot water, often enjoy greater benefits by using larger available roof spaces to generate electricity through the sun's rays to either use on-site or export back to the grid.

Educational Benefits

Installation of solar energy technologies in public sector buildings not only helps to reduce building carbon emissions but also provides a significant educational value by bringing clean, 'green' energy into the heart of the community.

Schools and colleges in particular can benefit from seeing well demonstrated solar energy installations in action. To support this we are able to provide digital monitoring equipment and software which allows the performance of the systems to be monitored and recorded for use in science or other curricular work. Systems can also be linked up to digital displays showing real-time performance which can then be positioned in prominent positions such as reception areas or assembly halls.
